One million French people have recently been alerted. Only emergencies should concern you. If FR-Alert sends warnings, some may be surprising. For example, a million Parisians heard a serious alert with a loud sound. It was a signal for an event: to obtain a QR code. Many discussed whether it was appropriate to use this for sports.

What is FR-Alert and how does this alert system work?

The FR-Alert system informs of danger in France since June 2022. Authorities send emergency messages to smartphones. These messages help people act quickly.

It relies on cellular broadcasting. When there is a serious problem, the prefecture sends messages. Phone operators send them to all phones in the danger zone.

FR-Alert messages provide details about the risk and actions to take. They also indicate where the danger is. Sometimes, they provide links for more advice.

FR-Alert has been active nationwide since June 2022. It was well tested on March 5, 2024, at Chambéry Savoie Mont Blanc airport. It can issue alerts for any major risk.

FR-Alert alerts appear on screens, even if phones are locked. They can be in multiple languages, useful in areas frequented by many tourists.

This system complements another existing system in France. It uses over 2,000 sirens and communicates through media and social networks. Together, they help protect people against dangers, including information about the appointment of off-frame prefects.

Preparing before an emergency situation

Start by looking at possible dangers. Then, think about what you could do if an accident occurs. You should note all these dangers and understand them well.

When preparing a kit, consider having water. About 6 liters per person is needed. Add non-perishable food. Don’t forget warm clothing and blankets. And check the kit every year for its contents.

It is also important to stay informed. Listen to the radio and watch TV. Most importantly, know the emergency numbers, like 15 for medical assistance. And remember that on social media, authorities also provide important information.
